Polly’s 40 things to do before 40: # 14 Drive a car

The 40 x 40 : Drive a car

Back in the day, I had a 40×40 list, a list of 40 things to do before I was 40.

Well, I turned 40 and upgraded the list.  One of the things on that new list? Finish the old list!

One of the things on that list? Drive a car

On the road…

It has been a while, but I am pleased to announce that I have actually completed a task from the 40 x 40. It seems like such a basic one too, when you consider any 17-year-old is allowed to do it.

But I have finally started my driving lessons. Which, by default means, I am also making headway into a task on the Kettle List. (#3 Pass my driving test)

The task on my original list was to merely ‘drive a car’. I was hoping to achieve this fairly easily by driving up and down the beach in my Mum’s car. It was just another example of adding something fairly easy to the list just so I could tick it off. (Something I warn against in my ‘Bucket List’ post!)

Weel, the joke was on me as it never happened, hence my having to carry the task over, as per item #2 of my Kettle List: Complete the 40 x 40 list!

It is also the reason behind Item #3 of the Kettle List.

As you may know, I have this whole EBI (Even Better If) policy, so if I was going to carry the task over I had to up my game, therefore the task has now been upgraded to ‘Pass my Driving Test’.

L for learner … and Look out other road users!

On the road again…

My lesson actually went quite well.

I did have lessons over 20 years ago, and as someone who has been a passenger for 40 + years, I actually know more about road use and the Highway Code than I realised, particularly regarding rules and rights of way.

Since starting lessons, I have investigated booking the theory test, which must be passed prior to booking my actual test. I even attempted an online version – which I passed.

Therefore, I am looking to take it in March, after a little more revision and a bit more driving experience to check this is something I actually can do. If I am going to be terrible at driving and not take my test, there is little point in paying out for the theory test.

I will keep you posted, and let you know when there are dates for any tests. and you can cheer with me if I pass, and console me if I fail!

With regard the 40 x 40:

So, my challenge was to drive a car – which I did – and will hopefully continue to do so and pass my test. So this challenge is…
