The books I plan to read in 2022

I have a confession. Despite signing up to Goodreads and saying I would read loads of books in 2021 I in fact only read about 13. That means I need to make a conscious effort to find time to read, every day, even if for only 20minutes or so.

books

Feel free to check out previous years and the books I have read before – I’ll link them below. But for now, here are the 5 books that I plan to read and I have chosen to start me off in 2022.

All of them are tenuously linked to challenges I have set myself for this year or some of my more long terms goals.

DISCLAIMER!

Feel free to click on the title of the book for a quick link to Amazon, where you can buy your own copies. I apparently get a bit of money – at no extra cost to you- so if you were going to buy one anyway, do a gal a favour and click the link.

Zen Inspirations – Miriam Levering

With my interest in both Japan and meditation, this book looked like the perfect read to start my year off with. Miriam Levering is a professor of religious studies at the University of Tenessee and has complied an anthology of poems, images and teachings from a number of Zen masters.

This book looks to be perfect for dipping into and the photos and artwork are not just there to illustrate but to aid in your reflection as you consider what you’ve read. I imagine that this book will be one that I will return to many times over the year.

Busy – Tony Crabbe

Not sure if it was a hint or not, but Hannah bought me this one for Christmas!

Tony Crabbe is a Business Psychologist who has recently written a book about working at home through Covid. The book I will be reading however is his first book ‘Busy: How to thrive in a world of too much’.

Broken down into three sections, I am hoping this book will offer some practical tips that I will be able to incorporate into my everyday life.

How to Change Your Life – Benjamin Bonetti

Why do publishers insist on using this obnoxious green for book covers! It really throws the vibe of my bookshelf off.

However, with a bold promise like changing my life, who could resist? As someone who is currently working with a life coach, as well as studying a course on the subject, a book that claims to help you find your purpose and ‘unleash your potential’ is a must-read.

Offering various tools and techniques maybe this will be the book that finally helps me figure it all out.

Book posts of my previous reads:

Life Coaching – Neenan and Dryder

As well as starting my own online ‘life coach’ course via The Centre of Excellence, I have also been working with a life coach to help me set my goals and work on ‘getting things done’, as I mentioned above. That’s why when I spotted this book in a charity shop on a visit to Cheltenham I snapped it up.

It will be interesting to see if it is a repeat of the things I learn in the course or whether there will be new content as I don’t know if this is intended for those who teach life coaching, or those hoping to benefit from it.

Joyful – Ingrid Fetell Lee

One of my tasks for this year is to complete my ‘Work in Progress’ – Joy in Small Places. To this end, it seemed appropriate to read a book that looks at the aesthetics of joy and how we can embrace them in our lives.

Ingrid Fetell Lee is a design expert and discusses the power of ordinary things, how they create joy and what this means to our overall happiness. Hopefully, all of these positive reads will give me a great start to the year.

Over to you

So these are the books I plan to read in the first quarter of 2022. I feel I did not read anywhere near as much as I could have last year, particularly while I was working from home and didn’t have to factor a commute into my time. Perhaps that is why I have chosen a number of cheerful, positive, readers to start my year off with.

Have you selected any books for this year? Do you have any recommendations that would be a good fit for my list?
