Coming to terms with 2020 – The Final Quarter

And now…the end is near…thank God!

The final quarter

I have been very quiet over the last month. There is no excuse…Well, there is, but I need to start prioritising the important things. I also need to stop letting my frankly very good excuses give me an out.

Let’s get back into gear and work on things that means something to me…and this blog counts as one of those things.

All in all, 2020 has been a bit ‘meh’ for most of us, but I am looking to pool my resources, skills and the final dregs of my enthusiasm and get some tasks done.

My time blocking has come into its own, and I feel I am getting more done – it’s just not stuff that is going to make much of an impact on my content or completing my Kettle list

That said with just 3 months remaining of the year – and what a year! – there is still time to look at what I wanted to get done, and maybe even finish a few tasks.

Back in the day…

..that day being, December 25 2019, I made a focus list. It is something I tend to do at the end of every year.

It is all very well having goals, but if you don’t have a plan in place to get them done they will remain a list of wishes rather than a list of things you intend to do. At the end of each year I go over the years list to see how I have done.

Obviously, plenty of those things didn’t get done in 2020. The main one being that I have yet to complete my TEFL, and – for obvious reasons- I have yet to gain any work experience in a school. Home schooling via Zoom does not count.

While I have completed a few craft projects – here’s one that I am particularly proud of in all it’s TikTok glory- I have not got my cross-stitch completed yet.

Tik Tok is my latest addiction.

As for my 40×40 and my Bristol Bucket List?

Well!

I was hoping to attend a large conference, like Hyper Japan or Comic-con – they have all been cancelled, much like the Epic Upfest that I had been so looking forward to.

All the places I had hoped to visit locally, such as the Lido, the Aquarium and the Arnolfini have all been closed, while I have had no chance of getting to the coast and getting into the sea up to my waist.

2020 could have potentially been a write off, were it not for the fact that I have managed to achieve a few of my tasks- and they have made so much difference to my life.

What ‘did’ get done

Most importantly of all, I passed my driving test. It was an EBI of a task from the 40 x 40, which was ‘drive a car’. Now I actually own a car, and I am driving about all over the place.

It has literally changed my life.

Being independent and being able to just go to places without organising with others, or relying on other people is freeing. Particularly now that I am single. I love being able to have one of those ‘I fancy a trip to Ikea’ moments, and being able to go on my own.

Another task I also managed to complete was my writing one of my E-Books : Patient Potential. It is a series of Haiku, and I am currently investigating how I go about getting it published, or at least how I can share it.

One big task I have been working on is getting the house sorted. The front bed room is slowly, but surely, being emptied, and I am getting ever closer to my dream of having my own bedroom. My Pinterest boards, my Ikea vision board and the inspiration I have got from various minimalists on YouTube have been spurring me on.

Now I have the car I can take visits to the tip to drop of all of the rubbish we gather. I was also able to take the clothes I decluttered from my wardrobe to one of those companies that buy by weight. It may only have made me a fiver, but it all adds up.

Here’s to a better 2021…

With lockdown, travel bans and running out of Netflix shows, 2020 has been tough. It has been particularly tough for anyone trying to complete a bucket list – especially one that has an element of ‘seeing the world’.

My October trip to Japan has been pushed back until the country will let in us plague-infested Europeans. My hope of ticking off another European capital has also been put on hold. But there has been plenty to do at home, so I guess I better get back to bagging up all that junk and making it a nicer place to be.
